Expert Spotlight: Ron Walker M.A. (FBI, ret.)
As a TAG Senior Analyst, Mr. Walker has provided expert consultation to hundreds of TAG’s corporate clients in the investigation, analysis, and management of threat cases. Mr. Walker has specialized expertise in conducting investigative interviews and in identifying unknown subjects responsible for sabotage, crime, defamatory statements, or anonymous threats.
Before joining TAG and its sister company, Park Dietz &Associates, in April 2000, Mr. Walker was an FBI Supervisory Special Agent assigned as Supervisor, Colorado Resident Agencies, and as Supervisor, Evidence Response Team. He was also Coordinator, National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crimes programs and provided consultation to law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies in crime assessment and analysis and the construction of offender profiles. He had also served as Supervisor, Violent Crime and Major Offender investigations and directed the Denver Violent Crimes and Fugitive Task Force.
Prior to his assignment to Denver, Mr. Walker was a senior Criminal Investigative Profiler at the FBI’s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, Behavioral Science Investigative Support Unit. One of the original unit cadre, Mr. Walker has provided expert consultation in over 2,000 cases to law enforcement agencies in the United States and throughout the world. Consultation services included threat assessment, criminal personality profiling, crime and crime scene assessment and analysis, major case management, crisis management and intervention, investigative and prosecution strategy, and expert witness testimony. Mr. Walker continues to provide similar expert consultation as a member of the forensic consulting firm of Park Dietz & Associates.
Mr. Walker is a graduate of the George Washington University, Washington, DC, and of Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, holding a Master of Arts degree in Counseling/Psychology. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1996 as Lieutenant Colonel, assigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. Prior to his Reserve assignments, Mr. Walker served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1980, including assignments as an F-4 fighter aircraft aviator. In addition to Reserve service with the AFOSI, Mr. Walker served as a member of the Security Police engaged in base defense, anti-terrorism, and law enforcement operations.
Mr. Walker was a member of the faculty of the FBI National Academy and the adjunct faculty of the University of Virginia, and he has been a lecturer at the National College of District Attorneys, the National Law Institute, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. A recognized expert in a broad variety of topics, including threat assessment and case management, critical incident management, crime assessment and analysis, criminal offender profiling, and major case investigations, Mr. Walker has lectured and made presentations to over 100 professional, law enforcement, academic, and other organizations with more than 6500 attendees. Since joining TAG in April 2000, he has regularly lectured as a member of TAG’s faculty for the annual Workplace Misconduct Mitigation Course and has presented basic and advanced workplace misconduct mitigation training to a variety of TAG corporate and government clients.
Mr. Walker was a key team member in TAG’s Columbine Psychiatric Autopsy Project, commissioned in May 2000 by the Jefferson County, Colorado, District Attorney. The project identified causal factors leading to the tragic events of April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School by conducting a retrospective analysis of the perpetrators’ behaviors during the months, weeks, and days preceding the shootings. The project developed recommendations for schools in recognizing warning signs of potential violence and the means for school violence to be averted.
From 1995 to 2007, Mr. Walker served as a Board Member, Governor’s Executive Clemency Advisory Board (ECAB), Office of the Governor, State of Colorado. In 2007, he was appointed as Chairman, ECAB by Governor Bill Ritter, and he served in that capacity until 2012.
