TAG originated with the recognition that organizations and individuals need help coping with the irrational, abnormal, and dangerous behavior of others. Whether the problem is a threatening employee, domestic violence, stalking, a defamation campaign designed to discredit a product or person, workplace violence, an impaired executive or officer, an irrational neighbor or tenant, a sexual predator circling a loved one, fiduciary abuse of an elder, or a kidnapping, TAG meets the need for rapid, expert, confidential guidance.
Among TAG’s achievements is the creation of the specialty of workplace violence prevention in 1987, when its founder, Park Dietz, M.D., Ph.D., recognized the need for companies to become proactive in preventing intentional occupational injuries. The opportunity to protect people and corporate assets by providing employers with interdisciplinary training and consultation reflecting expertise derived from medicine, public health, forensic psychiatry, forensic psychology, criminology, and law was needed. Today, more than 15,000 senior managers who have attended TAG training courses routinely use TAG methods to reduce risks for their employees, properties, and companies. These companies have in turn delivered TAG’s workplace violence prevention training to workforces numbering in the millions.
Over the past 26 years, TAG has partnered with companies like 3M, Motorola, Lockheed Martin, Macy’s, FedEx, and hundreds of others, to develop best practices in workplace violence prevention and the management of misconduct in workplace settings. The resulting innovations, which have become standards throughout North America, include the cross-functional team approach; early intervention instead of crisis management; the prevention of workplace violence through safe, fair, and responsible reporting and tracking procedures; courses, seminars, and educational materials tailored to each audience in the company; tools for managers and supervisors; tools for those who interface with the public; and the principled avoidance of common management errors.
