Joel Dvoskin, Ph.D.

Dr. Joel Dvoskin is board certified in forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology, and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 1, 18, and 41). Dr. Dvoskin has served as President of two APA Divisions, Psychology and Law (41) and Psychologists in Public Service (18). He is the former Acting Commissioner of Mental Health for the State of New York, managing more than 10,000 inpatients in 31 state psychiatric hospitals and 25,000 healthcare employees. Prior to that he served for more than a decade as Associate Commissioner, in charge of New York’s forensic and correctional mental health systems. 

He has provided workplace misconduct mitigation consultation to a wide array of organizations, including the U.S. Secret Service, the National Basketball Association, and numerous corporations and government agencies across the US. Dr. Dvoskin currently teaches at the University of Arizona Medical School. 

Dr. Dvoskin served as Chair of the Governor's Advisory Council on Behavioral Health and Wellness for the State of Nevada.

He provides frequent training and public speaking services in the US and Canada. In addition to providing expert testimony on civil and criminal matters, he provides a wide array of consulting services to state mental health and criminal justice agencies, federal courts, corporations, and universities. 

He has served as a design consultant for numerous hospital architectural projects, including the new St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Dvoskin is the co-author, with Andrew W. Kane, of Evaluation for Personal Injury Claims (2011) and co-Editor of Using Social Science to Reduce Violent Offending (2011). Both books are published by the Oxford University Press.
