Dr. Pitt is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center and a Board Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a consultant to the Phoenix Police Department Homicide Unit and the Arizona Response Crisis Team, a forensic psychiatrist with Park Dietz & Associates, a consultant to Threat Assessment Group, Inc., and a Physician Advisor to Magellan Behavioral Health. He maintains an active treatment practice.

Dr. Pitt is a board-certified psychiatrist with specialty training and board certification in forensic psychiatry. A graduate of Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Pitt completed his residency training in psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical Center and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He was formerly Director of Forensic Psychiatric Services at Arizona State Hospital.

Dr. Pitt has testified and/or consulted in a number of jurisdictions throughout the United States, participating in cases involving serial rape, sexual harassment, psychic harm, testamentary capacity, wrongful termination, murder for hire, psychiatric autopsy, impaired professionals, domestic homicide, psychiatric malpractice, workplace violence, school violence, employment discrimination, sexual homicide, stalking, spree murder, infanticide, and mass murder. Dr. Pitt also consults to law enforcement agencies about interviewing strategies.

For more than four years, Dr. Pitt served as a consultant to the Boulder District Attorney’s Office and the Boulder Police Department in the homicide investigation of JonBenet Ramsey. Dr. Pitt served as an advisor to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office regarding the Columbine High School tragedy and was the Director of the Columbine Psychiatric Autopsy Project for TAG.

Dr. Pitt has co-authored articles on women who kill their children, group dynamics in forensic pre-trial decision making, the value of videotape in forensic psychiatric examinations, and the structure of correctional mental health services.
